The watches are 45 millimeters in size and have a Japanese Miyota movement. In addition, they are equipped with hardened mineral glass and the lid is screwed. All requirements that a good watch must meet in our eyes. With a price from 149 euros, they are also particularly well priced.
A one-hand watch
The name actually says it all. Slow watches have only one hand. And with that hand, it shows both the minutes and the hours.
How exactly does an Slow watch work?
A one-hand watch actually has the same dial as a 'normal' watch. In most cases, the dial is divided into 12 hours, a single watch even into 24 hours. We are looking here at the dials that are divided into 12 hours. The hand makes one full circle in 12 hours.

But how can you read the time? There are dashes between the whole hours for this. The longer dashes indicate the quarter hours, the small dashes in between mark a period of 5 minutes. For example, the hand of the watch takes an hour to go from, for example, the 12 to the 1. On the way, it indicates the time to within 5 minutes.
Dutchman kills Slow watches
That sounds pretty rough. But it's true. The Dutchman Christiaan Huygens is internationally known as the inventor of the anchor escapement. And that meant the demise of the one-hand watches.
At the end of the Middle Ages, people want to know the time. This can initially be done via church bells. The German Per Henlein is the first to make a wearable watch with a spring mechanism at the beginning of the 16th century. It is the first Einzeiger watch.
When Christiaan Huygens invented the anchor escapement around 1675, watches could suddenly be made much more precise. One hand makes way for two hands, which can also be used to display the minutes. It will take years for the new principle to become popular. But with the arrival of the anchor escapement, the one-hand watches are gradually coming to an end.

While more and more people started to wear a digital watch in the 1980s, a counter-movement also started. Botta is seen as the first brand to start producing Einzeiger watches again in the mid-1980s. A small trend is born.

Affordable quality
Finding an alternative is not easy. We think it is important that the watches must be affordable, a maximum of 200 euros, and they must be of high quality. That combination was hard to find. But It worked!
